Backlog

Notes, links, ideas and todos for one project: a doc you used, something to check later, a feature to think about. They are saved on your Mac in ~/.lokstack/backlog/, never in the project folder, so they never end up in Git.

Add something. Type in the box at the top and press ↩. Choose what it is first:

  • Note for a plain note or link, with no status.
  • Todo for something to do.
  • Backlog for something not for now, parked to pick up later.

⌘↩ always saves as a todo. While you type, small labels under the box show what Lokstack noticed, such as a tag or a file link.

Tips (the bulb button) shows four ways to save faster. It is open the first time; close it with × and open it again any time.

WriteWhat happens
A link, like https://…It becomes a link you can click.
#ideaA tag. Tags show above the list; click one to see only those items.
src/app.js:42A button that opens that file at line 42 in VS Code. It only opens files inside this project.
Several pasted linesLokstack asks how to save them. One note: the first line is the title and the rest goes in the details exactly as written, ready for long notes with steps and commands. Separate items: one item per line; - [ ] text comes in as a todo and - [x] text as done. It suggests separate items only when every line is a list item. Undo works for both.

List and Board. List shows your items with a search box and these filters (hover one to see what it means):

FilterShows
AllEverything.
Not doneEverything except Done. This is where the list starts.
NotesNotes and links with no status.
BacklogThings not for now, parked to pick up later.
TodoThings to do.
DoingWhat you are working on now.
DoneFinished items.

The first two choose how much to show; the other five are the statuses, in the same order as the board's columns.

Board shows the same items as five columns, left to right from idea to finished: Notes, Backlog, Todo, Doing and Done. Drag a card to another column to change it; drop it on Notes to make it a plain note again. On a narrow window the board scrolls sideways.

The number next to Backlog in the sidebar and on the tab counts your Todo and Doing items.

Change things.

  • Click the round box to mark a todo done.
  • Each row shows the title and the first two lines of its details. Click it (or press ↩ on it) to open it in the viewer.
  • The viewer shows the whole item: details keep their shape (``` ` `` code blocks as boxes with a **Copy** button, - and 1. lines as lists, text ` as code), plus when it was added and changed. From there you can change the status, pin it, Copy, Edit, mark it done or Delete it. ↑ and ↓ go to the previous and next item, E edits, ⌘↩ saves an edit and Esc closes.
  • The … button, or a right-click, has Pin to top, the statuses, Move to top, Move to bottom, Edit, Copy text and Delete.
  • Drag an item to put it in a different order, or onto another column on the board. A green line shows where it will land.
  • Several at once: press Select next to the filters, then click items (Shift-click picks everything in between, ⌘A picks everything shown). The bar at the bottom has Mark done, Move to and Delete, each with Undo. Esc or Cancel stops selecting. It works on the all-projects page too.
  • Delete shows Undo for a few seconds. Delete all done is under the Done filter.

Pinned items always stay first. Each item shows when it changed, Added by AI if an AI tool wrote it, and the Git branch you were on when it was not main. The branch is only a label; nothing is sent to Git.

Copy as Markdown copies what is shown as a checklist, ready for a pull request or an AI chat.

Everywhere else.

  • Backlog in the sidebar shows every project's items on one page, with a project picker in the add box.
  • Next up on a project's Overview shows its top three open items.
  • Press N on any page for Quick note: pick the project, type and press ↩.

AI tools. A connected AI tool can read the backlog with list_backlog, for example when you ask "what should I work on next?" This is free. With Pro it can also save a follow-up with add_backlog; those items show Added by AI. The text of your items is passed to the AI as data, never as instructions.
